The towns of Mauch Chunk and East Mauch Chunk were consolidate in 1954 and renamed to honor the famous Native American Jim Thorpe.  There are 3 distinctive neighborhoods in Jim Thorpe, downtown historic area with stately Victorian buildings; east side, a traditional New England village and the Heights with easy access to the Switchback rail trail.  Long time and new residents have re-discovered this “Switzerland of America”.   While Jim Thorpe is a great residential community it also is a great tourist community with it’s downtown shopping and other exciting tourists events held throughout the year.   Penn’s Peak, a mountaintop entertainment venue, holds 1,800 concertgoers and offers full service restaurant, open-deck for summertime performances.  It’s also minutes from the 903 corridor offering many other Pocono tourist attractions!
